Prosecutors: Jarvis Lewis fatally shot Antonio Gray during robbery at gun sale

Jarvis Lewis was ordered held without bond Saturday for allegedly fatally shooting Antonio Gray during a March gun transaction on the South Side, prosecutors said.

Gray and another man met Lewis to buy a gun in the 7800 block of South Muskegon Avenue about 9:45 a.m. March 23, prosecutors said.

Lewis instead tried to rob the men at gunpoint, prosecutors said. Gray gave Lewis money, then punched him in the head and a struggle ensued.

Lewis eventually shot Gray and fled, prosecutors said. Gray's friend called 911.

Gray, 26, of the 8100 block of South Muskegon Avenue, died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital about two hours later, authorities said.

Lewis, of the 2800 block of East 78th Street, was arrested Dec. 19 and charged with one count of first-degree murder, authorities said. He was also wanted on a separate burglary warrant.

Lewis has one felony burglary conviction, prosecutors said. He will be back in court Dec. 23.

Jarvis Lewis has been charged with murder in connection with a March shooting in the South Shore neighborhood that killed Antonio Grey.

Lewis, 18, was charged with one count of first-degree murder for the March 23 attack in the 7800 block of South Muskegon Avenue, police said.

Grey, 26,, of the 8100 block of South Muskegon Avenue, was shot in the chest about 9:45 a.m. and died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital about two hours later, authorities said.

Lewis, of the 2800 block of East 78th Street, was also held on two outstanding warrants, police said.

He will appear for a bond hearing Saturday.
