Erica Blackman killed in Chatham murder-suicide

Erica D. Blackman was found shot to death early Friday in the Chatham neighborhood in what police are calling an apparent murder-suicide.

A relative found 27-year-old Blackman and 42-year-old Michael Leonard shot to death in the 8000 block of South Princeton Avenue about 12:45 a.m. May 1, authorities said.

An autopsy determined Blackman, who lived on the block, was shot in the left arm and her death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Leonard, who also lived on the block, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the mouth and the medical examiner's office ruled his death a suicide, authorities said.

Area South detectives are investigating the deaths as a domestic murder-suicide, police said.
