Miriam Romero | Homicide Watch Chicagohttp://homicides.suntimes.com/suspects/miriam-romero/Latest news about Miriam Romeroen-usSat, 01 Aug 2015 21:21:06 -0500Second person charged with 2014 beating death of Victor Ramirez in Little Villagehttp://homicides.suntimes.com/2015/08/01/second-person-charged-with-2014-beating-death-of-victor-ramirez-in-little-village/<p>By MITCHELL ARMENTROUT<br /> Chicago Sun-Times Wire<br /> <a href="http://wordpress.homicidewatch.org/chicago/files/2015/08/26th-copyaa-211x300.jpg"><img src="http://wordpress.homicidewatch.org/chicago/files/2015/08/26th-copyaa-211x300-211x300.jpg" alt="Miriam Romero | Chicago Police" width="211" height="300" class="size-medium wp-image-12546" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Miriam Romero | Chicago Police</p><br /> Bond was set at $250,000 Saturday for a 22-year-old woman charged with being part of a group that beat <a href="http://homicides.suntimes.com/victims/victor-ramirez/">Victor Ramirez</a> to death last summer in Little Village on the Southwest Side.</p> <p><a href="http://homicides.suntimes.com/suspects/miriam-romero/">Miriam Romero</a> is the second person charged with murder for the Aug.31, 2014 attack that left the 23-year-old dead in the 4100 block of West 26th Street, according to Chicago Police. <a href="http://homicides.suntimes.com/suspects/alvardo-perez/">Alvaro Perez</a>, 20, was charged last October and remains in the Cook County Jail on a $1 million bond, Homicide Watch Chicago previously reported.</p> <p>Ramirez was walking about 5:30 a.m. that day when a group in a passing vehicle yelled gang slogans, prosecutors said at Perez’s bond October bond hearing.</p> <p>The group got out of the vehicle, and beat and kicked Ramirez. When Ramirez fell to the ground, the group stomped on his head, prosecutors said.<br /> <span id="more-12545"></span><br /> <iframe src="http://homicides.suntimes.com/api/v1/homicides/709.html" width="100%" height="350" frameborder=0></iframe></p> <p>They then got back into the vehicle and drove over the injured Ramirez, prosecutors claim.<br /> <a href="http://wordpress.homicidewatch.org/chicago/files/2015/08/26th-copy.jpg"><img src="http://wordpress.homicidewatch.org/chicago/files/2015/08/26th-copy.jpg" alt="Alvaro Perez | Chicago Police" width="243" height="282" class="size-full wp-image-12547" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Alvaro Perez | Chicago Police</p><br /> Ramirez, who lived in the 3000 block of West 41st Street, died a short time later at a hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.</p> <p>The attack was captured on video by nearby surveillance cameras and multiple witnesses identified Perez as the person who stomped on Ramirez’s head, prosecutors said.</p> <p>The witnesses gave police a description of the vehicle, and officers searching the area found the vehicle parked down the street from Perez’s home, prosecutors said.</p> <p>The vehicle was registered to Perez, and blood recovered from the wheel and undercarriage matched that of Ramirez, authorities said.</p> <p>Romero, of the 2100 block of South Carpenter, was arrested earlier this week and charged with first-degree murder. A judge on Saturday ordered her held on a $250,000 bond, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office.
