Anthony Galvin Jr., shot to death in front of Grand Crossing home, was going to begin college this summer

Anthony D. Galvin Jr. was planning to attend college this summer. Instead, family and friends will be attending a funeral for the 19-year-old, gunned down last week in front of his home in the South Side Grand Crossing neighborhood.

Galvin died Thursday, three days after after he and two other people were shot on Memorial Day.

About 11:30 p.m. Monday, the group was standing on the sidewalk in the 1500 block of East 74th Street when shots rang out, according to Chicago Police.

Three people were hit, and all showed up at Jackson Park Hospital.

Galvin suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 5:39 p.m. Thursday, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A 20-year-old woman was shot in the right elbow, and a 21-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the left shoulder, police said. Both of their conditions were stabilized at Jackson Park.

Galvin was a 2016 graduate of a 2016 graduate of Thornton Fractional North High School in south suburban Calumet City, where he was a forward on the Meteors basketball team.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses.

The page author wrote of Galvin: "Anthony loved to play basketball. He worked hard and graduated from high school and planned on going to college this summer to have a head start in his education by attending summer class. ... His presence, strength and spirit will be missed by his family and friends. In memory of a great young man."
