Woman gets 7 years for fatally stabbing mother's boyfriend in Rogers Park during 2013 argument

A North Side woman has been sentenced to seven years in prison for stabbing her mother’s boyfriend, Anthony Price, to death in the Rogers Park neighborhood in 2013.

Dezerai Gardner, now 22, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on May 24 before Judge Thomas Byrne, according to Cook County court records.

About 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 1, 2013, Gardner stabbed the 35-year-old Price in the chest during a domestic argument in the 7300 block of North Seeley Avenue, authorities said at the time.

Price, a Dolton resident, was pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston at 3:10 p.m. that day, authorities said.

According to Price’s mother, the stabbing happened during an altercation between her son and Gardner’s mother. A police source confirmed that Gardner was the daughter of Price’s girlfriend.

Byrne sentenced Gardner to seven years in prison on May 24, according to court records.

She was booked into the Logan Correctional Center to begin serving her sentence Wednesday, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

A woman has been charged with fatally stabbing a south suburban man during a domestic incident Thursday in the Rogers Park neighborhood.

Dezerai Gardner, 18, of the 2000 block of West Jarvis, was charged with one count of first-degree murder in the connection with the death of 35-year-old Anthony Price, police said.

Price, of the 200 block of East 140th Street in Dolton, was stabbed in the chest about 1:30 p.m. in the 7300 block of North Seeley Avenue, authorities said.

According to LaDonna Price, Anthony Price's mother, the stabbing occurred during an altercation between her son and Gardner's mother. A police source confirmed that Gardner is the daughter of Price's girlfriend.

Price was pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston at 3:10 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Gardner is expected to appear Saturday in bond court.

A south suburban man was stabbed to death in the North Side Rogers Park neighborhood Thursday afternoon.

Anthony Price, 35, was fatally stabbed in the chest about 1:30 p.m. in the 7300 block of North Seeley Avenue, authorities said.

Price, of the 200 block of East 140th Street in Dolton, was pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston at 3:10 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

The incident appeared to be domestic-related, according to police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien, citing preliminary information.

Nobody was in custody Thursday evening as Area North detectives investigated.
