Devonte Pearson was shot to death on an Englewood porch in July 2013. On Tuesday, a 17-year-old boy was charged with the killing.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with fatally shooting Devonte Pearson in Englewood nearly three years ago.

The boy was ordered held Thursday on a first-degree murder charge after being accused with fatally shooting Pearson nearly three years ago, according to Chicago Police.

About 8:45 p.m. on July 16, 2013, the teen shot the 20-year-old Pearson on his porch in the 5700 block of South Carpenter, then ran away, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Pearson was shot in the back and died three days later at Stroger Hospital, authorities said.

The 17-year-old was with a group of about 15 people gathered on Pearson’s porch at the time of the shooting, according to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

Pearson and someone else came outside of the home and asked the group to leave, and an argument ensued, prosecutors said.

A witness heard one person say, “We’re not here to shoot, but to fight,” prosecutors said. Then, another person said, “We don’t fight, we shoot.”

The witness then heard four or five gunshots, and found Pearson lying on the porch bleeding, prosecutors said.

Detectives performed a photo array with two witnesses in July 2015 and the 17-year-old was positively identified as the shooter, prosecutors said.

He appeared in juvenile court Thursday and was ordered held in custody, the state’s attorney’s office said. He is next scheduled to appear in court July 14.

A man who was seriously wounded during a Tuesday night shooting on the South Side died Friday afternoon.

Devonte Pearson, 20, was shot once in the shoulder in the 5700 block of South Carpenter Street about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said.

Pearson, of the 5700 block of South Carptenter Street, died at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 1:50 p.m. Friday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

He was on a porch when a group of males ran by and opened fire, police said.

No one was in custody as Area South detectives investigated.
