Fredrick Dockery | Homicide Watch Chicagohttp://homicides.suntimes.com/victims/fredrick-dockery/Latest news about Fredrick Dockeryen-usMon, 26 Oct 2015 15:55:03 -0500WEEK IN REVIEW: Eight people fatally shot in Chicago; woman fatally struck by motorcycle on Lake Shore Drivehttp://homicides.suntimes.com/2015/10/26/week-in-review-lives-lost-from-violence-in-chicago/<p>By JEFF MAYES<br /> Chicago Sun-Times Wire<br /> <a href="http://wordpress.homicidewatch.org/chicago/files/2015/10/POLICETAPE.jpg"><img src="http://wordpress.homicidewatch.org/chicago/files/2015/10/POLICETAPE-300x209.jpg" alt="CrimeScene-LCN-040213-1.jpg" width="300" height="209" class="alignright size-medium wp-image-14026" /></a><br /> At least eight people died from gun violence last week in Chicago, including a man who passed away six months after being shot on the West Side. </p> <p>A ninth homicide occurred when a German woman was fatally struck by a vehicle on Lake Shore Drive, an incident that led to the motorcyclist being charged with reckless homicide.</p> <p><a href="http://homicides.suntimes.com/victims/perry-burrell/">Perry Burrell</a> was fatally shot early Sunday in West Garfield Park.</p> <p>Burrell, 26, was found with a gunshot wound to the head about 2:45 a.m. in a vehicle that had crashed into a tree in the 4500 block of West Adams, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.</p> <p>Burrell, of the 2300 block of North Avers, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the medical examiner’s office.</p> <p><a href="http://homicides.suntimes.com/victims/maria-moreno/">Maria Moreno</a> was fatally shot in Little Village early Saturday.<br /> <span id="more-14034"></span></p> <p>About 12:30 a.m., Moreno, 45, was walking with another person in the 2500 block of South Harding when she heard shots and realized she had been struck in the chest, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.</p> <p>She was taken to Saint Anthony Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 12:58 a.m. She lived about a half-mile away from the scene of the shooting in the 2500 block of South Kedvale.</p> <p><a href="http://homicides.suntimes.com/victims/fredrick-dockery/">Fredrick Dockery</a> was shot to death in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Saturday afternoon.</p> <p>Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 4:50 p.m. in the 5300 block of South Union found the 23-year-old unresponsive with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and neck, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.</p> <p>He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 5:40 p.m., authorities said. Dockery lived nearby in the 5200 block of South Union.</p> <p><a href="http://homicides.suntimes.com/victims/james-k-graham/">James K. Graham</a> was shot to death Friday night in North Austin.</p> <p>Graham, 43, was outside in the 5300 block of West North Avenue about 8:45 p.m. when a gunman walked up and started shooting, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.</p> <p>Graham, who lived in the 100 block of West St. Charles Road in Lombard, was shot in the head and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 9:27 p.m.</p> <p>Seventeen-year-old <a href="http://homicides.suntimes.com/victims/ryan-nicholson/">Ryan Nicholson</a> died after he was shot in the head Friday afternoon in the Jefferson Park neighborhood, and police have charged his 18-year-old brother with murder.</p> <p>Nicholson was in a home in the 5100 block of North Austin Avenue about 3 p.m. when he was shot during an argument, police and prosecutors allege.</p> <p>He was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead at 3:21 a.m. Saturday, authorities said.</p> <p>Police on Monday charged 18-year-old <a href="http://homicides.suntimes.com/suspects/brad-nicholson/">Brad Nicholson</a> with murder, saying he pulled a gun and shot his brother once in the face during an argument in their bedroom.</p> <p><a href="http://homicides.suntimes.com/victims/malek-taylor/">Malek Taylor</a> died Friday, two days after he was shot in the head in a drive-by in Chatham.</p> <p>Taylor, 31, was outside in the 8700 block of South Wabash about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside shot him in the head, according to police and the medical examiner's office. </p> <p>Taylor, of the 9500 block of South Forest Avenue, was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died at 2:01 p.m. Friday, according to the medical examiner's office.</p> <p><a href="http://homicides.suntimes.com/victims/derrick-smith/">Derrick Smith</a>, who was left paralyzed after an Austin shooting in June, died from his injuries Monday, authorities said.</p> <p>Smith, 28, was sitting in a vehicle in the 5200 block of West LeMoyne Street at 10 p.m. on June 21 when someone walked up and shot him, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.</p> <p>He was shot several times and taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said.</p> <p>Smith, of the 0-100 block of North Waller Avenue, was pronounced dead at 5:15 p.m. Monday, according to the medical examiner’s office.</p> <p>An autopsy Tuesday found he died of pulmonary thromboembolism immobility due to paraplegia caused by multiple gunshot wounds. His death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.</p> <p><a href="http://homicides.suntimes.com/victims/terontay-atkinson/">Terontay Atkinson</a> was shot to death Monday night at a South Side gas station.</p> <p>The 20-year-old was standing in the parking lot of Falcon Fuel in the 300 block of South Cicero at 9:25 p.m. when a male suspect walked up and shot him in the head, according to police and the medical examiner's office.</p> <p>Atkinson, of the 5000 block of West Maypole, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. </p> <p>Bond was set at $300,000 Saturday for a 20-year-old <a href="http://homicides.suntimes.com/suspects/charles-lyons/">Charles Lyon</a>s of Evergreen Park, a motorcyclist charged with running a red light and fatally striking a woman crossing Lake Shore Drive Monday night near Grant Park.</p> <p>Lyons faces felony counts of reckless homicide with a motor vehicle and aggravated reckless driving resulting in bodily harm for striking 25-year-old <a href="http://homicides.suntimes.com/victims/katrin-kutscheidt/">Katrin Kutscheidt</a>, according to police.</p> <p>About 10:25 p.m. Monday, Lyons rode between stopped cars in the 700 block of South Lake Shore Drive and struck a man and woman as they were crossing the street, police said.</p> <p>Kutscheidt, from Germany, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
