Kevin Shorter fatally shot, 13-year-old boy wounded while walking in Austin

Kevin Shorter was killed and a 13-year-old boy seriously wounded in a shooting Saturday morning in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

The 18-year-old Shorter was walking with the boy about 11:15 a.m. in the 1400 block of North Latrobe when someone fired shots at them, according to Chicago Police.

Shorter was struck in the head, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:31 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 1700 block of North Lorel.

The boy was shot in the face, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, according to police.
