CBS-2 Chicago Reports that Linda Williams, 56, shot and killed late Wednesday night in the South Shore neighborhood, was an unemployed single mother of five grown children. She was described as a friendly, upbeat person, despite her struggles, who appears to have gotten caught in gang crossfire. Read more here.

Woman, 56, shot and killed in South Shore neighborhood

Officers on routine patrol near the South Shore neighborhood heard gunshots coming from the area near East 79th Street and South East End Avenue about 11:45 p.m., police said.

When they arrived at the location they discovered the woman lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

The woman, 57-year-old Linda Williams, was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where she died at 1:33 a.m. Thursday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
