Pierce Curry, 17, was shot and killed early Tuesday morning, as he and his friends drove in the 6200 block of S. State St. Curry was preparing for his senior year in high school, and hoped to go to college after that, his mother said. She and his sisters shared their memories of him in this short video.

South Deering teen killed early Tuesday, shot in head while riding in car

A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot while riding in a vehicle on the South Side early Tuesday, authorities said.

Pierce Curry was in the backseat of the vehicle when gunfire erupted from a car that pulled alongside them as they passed through 6200 block of South State Street at 1:30 a.m., authorities said.

Curry, of the 9900 block of South Hoxie Avenue in the South Deering neighborhood, died after a single bullet stuck him in the head, authorities said. He was the only person in the vehicle who was shot.

The teen was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital where doctors said he died at 1:58 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

No one was in custody as Area South detectives investigated.
