Latonya Morris sentenced to prison for fatally stabbing Rollins Stamps in Grand Boulevard area

Latonya N. Morris was sentenced to 12 years in prison Tuesday for fatally stabbing the father of her two children last year.

Morris stabbed Rollins Stamps about 8:40 p.m. April 7, 2013, in the 4000 block of South Wabash Avenue following an argument that escalated, authorities said.

An injured Stamp went to a neighbor’s home for help and frantically rang the doorbell, authorities said.

The neighbor saw Stamps bleeding on the porch and Morris holding a knife in her hand saying, “You gonna bring your ass over to her house for help!” prosecutors said.

The neighbor then saw Morris stab Stamps, who fell to the ground. She continued to stab him while he was on the ground, then she started kicking him in the head and side, prosecutors said. Morris then walked home.

Stamps, 26, died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy confirmed he died of multiple stab wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.

Judge Nicholas Ford found Morris guilty of second-degree murder on April 29 after a bench trial, according to court records. On Tuesday, she was sentenced to 12 years in prison, followed by two years of mandatory supervised release.

Morris will receive credit for 415 days spent in jail since her arrest.

Woman charged with fatal stabbing on South Side

A 40-year-old South Side woman was expected to appear in court Tuesday after being charged with the fatal stabbing of a man Sunday night in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood in what authorities classified as a domestic incident.

The stabbing happened about 8:40 p.m. Sunday in the 4000 block of South Wabash Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

Rollins Stamps, 26, suffered multiple stab wounds to the leg and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said. He was pronounced dead at 9:28 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

An autopsy on Monday found that Stamps died of multiple stab wounds and his death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

Latonya N. Morris, also of the 4000 block of South Wabash, was arrested soon afterward and charged with one count of first degree murder, according to police.

She was scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Tuesday.

South Side man fatally stabbed

A man was stabbed to death during a domestic incident Sunday night in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood, authorities said.

The attack happened about 8:40 p.m. in the 4000 block of South Wabash Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

Rollins Stamps suffered multiple stab wounds to the leg and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.

Stamps, 26, was pronounced dead at 9:28 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

A female was in custody but no charges have been filed as of Sunday night, police said.

Area Central detectives were investigating.
