Ronald Peters | Homicide Watch Chicagohttp://homicides.suntimes.com/victims/ronald-peters/Latest news about Ronald Petersen-usTue, 31 Mar 2015 18:36:18 -0500Larry Peters, 65, convicted of murdering brother during argument at Englewood homehttp://homicides.suntimes.com/2015/03/31/larry-peters-65-convicted-of-murdering-brother-during-argument-at-englewood-home/<p><img src="http://wordpress.homicidewatch.org/chicago/files/2015/03/LarryPeters.jpg" alt="Larry Peters / Photo from Chicago Police" width="100%" height="auto" class="size-full wp-image-10601" /><br /> Larry Peters / Photo from Chicago Police</p> <p>BY LEEANN SHELTON<br /> Sun-Times Meida</p> <p>A 65-year-old man was convicted of murder last week for fatally shooting his unarmed younger brother during a 2013 confrontation at their Englewood home.</p> <p>A Cook County jury found <a href="http://homicides.suntimes.com/suspects/larry-peters/">Larry Peters</a> guilty of two counts of murder following a four-day trial before Judge Thaddeus Wilson, according to court records.</p> <p>Larry and <a href="http://homicides.suntimes.com/victims/ronald-peters/">Ronald Peters</a> had lived on separate floors of a home in the 5800 block of South Shields Avenue.</p> <p>Prosecutors had said that on Jan. 25, 2013, Ronald Peters yelled at his older brother to be quiet. Larry Peters responded by coming downstairs with a shotgun, prosecutors said.<br /> <span id="more-10600"></span><br /> Ronald Peters, 50, tried to take the gun away, but the elder brother shot him in his living room, prosecutors said. Ronald Peters ran to the street, but Larry Peters followed and shot him again.</p> <p><iframe src="http://homicides.suntimes.com/api/v1/homicides/33.html" width="100%" height="350" frameborder=0></iframe></p> <p>Ronald Peters was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he later died, authorities said. His brother was arrested within five minutes.</p> <p>A police report said Larry Peters told responding officers, "I just shot my brother and I want to turn myself in." Shields, is charged with first-degree murder for the death of Ronald Peters , who a prosecutor said lived at the same address on a floor below his older brother.</p> <p>Assistant State’s Attorney Terri Gleason said Ronald Peters was home with his 17-year-old daughter and shouted at LarryPeters to stop making noise. Gleason said Larry Peters came downstairs with a shotgun and Ronald Peters tried to take the gun away without success.</p> <p>Gleason said Ronald Peters ’ daughter heard the men enter his living room, and she said the girl heard a shot and her father crying in pain.</p> <p>No one else was in the living room, Gleason said.</p> <p>She said Ronald Peters ran out the front door and crawled into the street bleeding badly from his side. She said a witness saw Larry Peters stand on the porch, reload the shotgun and walk over to his brother.</p> <p>The unarmed Ronald Peters raised his hands to block his face, Gleason said, and Larry Peters raised the shotgun and fired it at his brother’s torso.</p> <p>Gleason said Larry Peters walked to the backyard and dropped the gun but was detained within five minutes.</p> <p>He told officers, “I just shot my brother and I want to turn myself in,” according to a police report. Gleason said he also told them where to find the gun.</p> <p>Ronald Peters was pronounced dead at John H.
