Shavonte Howard | Homicide Watch Chicagohttp://homicides.suntimes.com/victims/shavonte-howard/Latest news about Shavonte Howarden-usSat, 06 Jul 2013 10:11:15 -0500Two charged with July 4 murder of South Side manhttp://homicides.suntimes.com/2013/07/06/two-charged-with-july-4-murder-of-south-side-man/<p>Two men have been charged with the apparent gang-related murder of a man who was shot in the head on the Fourth of July and died a day later.</p> <p>Tommie Harris, 25, and Quintion Humphries, 19, are each charged with one felony count of first-degree murder and one felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm in connection with the death of Shavonte Howard.</p> <p>At a hearing on Saturday, bond was denied for Harris, who Cook County prosecutors said was the shooter, and bond was set at $500,000 for Humphries, the alleged getaway driver.</p> <p>Howard was shot in the head in the 5600 block of South Western Avenue about 12:20 p.m. Thursday, police said.</p> <p>Prosecutors said at the hearing Saturday that Humphries drove alongside Howard’s car, and flashed gang signs. Both cars turned east and a shot rang out. Howard then felt glass on his face and saw blood all over, prosecutors said. The gunshot went through his head, prosecutors said.</p> <p>Howard died at 2:47 p.m. Friday at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.</p> <p>Harris, of the 5200 block of South Racine Avenue, and Humphries, of the 12000 block of South Loomis Street, were pulled over shortly after the shooting and police recovered a 9mm gun, prosecutors said.</p> <p>Before he died Howard identified the shooter and the car that they were in, according to prosecutors.</p> <p>-- Sun-Times</p> John CarpenterSat, 06 Jul 2013 10:11:15 -0500http://homicides.suntimes.com/2013/07/06/two-charged-with-july-4-murder-of-south-side-man/Shavonte HowardQuintion HumphriesMan dies day after shot in head on SW Sidehttp://homicides.suntimes.com/2013/07/05/man-dies-day-after-shot-in-head-on-sw-side/<p>A man died Friday after he was shot in the head Thursday afternoon in the McKinley Park neighborhood, authorities said. </p> <p>He was shot about 12:20 p.m. Thursday in the 5600 block of South Western Avenue in the McKinley Park neighborhood. A day later, he succumbed to his injuries.</p> <p>He was identified as 20-year-old Shavonte Howard, of the 5300 block of South Hoyne Avenue, by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
