Omar Dixon was ordered held on $1.5 million bond Friday after prosecutors claimed he fatally shot Terrence Harris during a January drug deal in in the Ashburn neighborhood.

Harris, 24, went to the 8100 block of South Artesian Avenue Jan. 14 to sell cannabis to Dixon and his acquaintance, prosecutors said.

Harris went to the agreed upon location, entered a gangway and handed over a package of cannabis, prosecutors said.

Before paying for the drugs, Dixon pulled out a gun and said, "This is mine." When Harris reached for the gun, Dixon shot him in the chest area, prosecutors said.

After the shooting, Dixon's acquaintance ran to the front of the house and told a friend what happened, prosecutors said.

Terrence Harris, of the 9200 block of South Elizabeth Avenue, was declared dead minutes later, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Dixon ran away after the shooting, but the person who drove Harris to the drug deal gave chase, prosecutors said.

The driver gave up the pursuit and called 911. After talking to detectives, the driver went home but soon saw Dixon "creeping out from between the houses," prosecutors said.

The driver exited the vehicle, and Dixon yelled, "It wasn't me," then ran away, prosecutors said.

Dixon's acquaintance voluntarily went to the police station and told detectives about the robbery and the shooting, prosecutors said. The driver confirmed Dixon's acquaintance did not match the description of the man he chased after the shooting.

Phone records indicate Dixon and his acquaintance texted numerous times about the drug deal and that Dixon later called the acquaintance after the murder, prosecutors said.

A warrant was issued for Dixon's arrest, and he was taken into custody Jan. 24 in a hotel in Madison, Wis., prosecutors said.

Dixon, 23, of the 3500 block of West 83rd Place, was charged with murder and armed robbery charges, police said. He was sentenced to four years in prison for residential burglary in 2008, according to court records.

On Friday, Judge Donald Panarese ordered Dixon held on $1.5 million bond.

Omar Dixon has been charged with murder in the January shooting death of Terrence Harris in the Ashburn neighborhood.

Harris, 24, was walking through a gangway in the 8100 block of South Artesian Avenue when Dixon approached with a gun, announced a robbery and shot Harris in the chest about 5:50 p.m. Jan. 14, authorities said.

Terrence Harris, of the 9200 block of South Elizabeth Avenue, was declared dead minutes later at the University of Chicago Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Dixon, 23, of the 3500 block of West 83rd Place, was arrested in Madison, Wis. on murder and armed robbery charges, police said. He was extradited to Chicago this week and is scheduled to appear in court for a bond hearing Friday.

Five men and two teenage boys were shot to death throughout Chicago last week.

The most recent killing happened when 21-year-old Shawn Holloway was shot multiple times in the 2100 block of West Warren Boulevard about 11 a.m., authorities said.

Halloway, of the 3000 block of West Walnut Street, took himself to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was declared dead about an hour later, authorities said.

On Saturday, officers responding to a call of a shots fired found 18-year-old Bernard Pippen shot in the neck in the 9600 block of South Green Street in the Auburn Gresham community about 6:50 p.m., authorities said.

Pippen, of the 11000 block of South State Street, died at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged for the murder and is expected in bond court later Monday.

In the North Lawndale community, 24-year-old Cornelius Hunter was in a vehicle in the 1200 block of South Pulaski Road when a gunman in another vehicle shot him about 12:45 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.

Hunter, of the 1700 block of North Luna Avenue, was shot in the chest and leg, authorities said. He died hours later at Mount Sinai Hospital.

On Friday, 17-year-old Walter Wright was in the 5800 block of South Western Avenue in the Gage Park community when a gunman approached and shot him in the chest about 7:30 p.m., authorities said.

Wright, of the 5300 block of South May Street, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was declared dead later that day, according to the medical examiner's office.

On Wednesday, 24-year-old Terrence Harris was walking through a gangway in the 8100 block of South Artesian Avenue in the Ashburn neighborhood when two males approached opened fire at 5:22 p.m., authorities said.

Harris, of the 9200 block of South Elizabeth Street, was shot several times and died minutes later at University of Chicago Medical Center, according to the medical examiner’s office.

On Tuesday, 16-year-old Terrell Campbell was walking through a vacant lot in the 300 block of East Pershing Road in the Grand Boulevard when two gunmen approached and opened fire about 9:50 p.m., authorities said.

Campbell, of the 8800 block of South Wabash Avenue, was shot in the abdomen, chest and legs, authorities said. He was declared dead a short time later at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the medical examiner's office.

The killing started when 31-year-old Rene Arredondo was shot in the head in the 4200 block of South Rockwell Street in the Brighton Park community about 5 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said. The shooting happened near Shield Elementary School.

Arredondo, of the 4500 block of South Rockwell Street, died later that day at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the medical examiner’s office. An 18-year-old man was also wounded in the shooting, police said.

Overall, the medical examiner’s office has ruled at least 15 Chicago deaths in 2015 a homicide.

Harris, 24, was walking through a gangway in the 8100 block of South Artesian Avenue when two males approached opened fire at 5:22 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said.

Harris, of the 9200 block of South Elizabeth Street, was shot several times and died minutes later at University of Chicago Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Nobody has been charged for the murder.

Area South detectives are investigating.
