Youman McKenzie killed in East Garfield Park shooting

Youman McKenzie was fatally shot in the East Garfield Park neighborhood early Tuesday.

McKenzie, 23, was shot in the shoulder and left thigh in the 500 block of South Central Park Avenue about 2:40 a.m., authorities.

Witnesses told police McKenzie was exchanging gunfire with another person when he was shot, authorities said.

McKenzie, of the 7000 block of South Winchester Avenue, died a short time later at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Nobody has been charged for the murder.

Area North detectives are investigating.
