Comment of the Day: “I’d just settled in to bed when the gun shots rang out”

Anthony Hobson, 25, was fatally shot Saturday night in the Roseland neighborhood. Reader “Kokomac” posted this about the slaying:

This shooting occurred on my block. I’d just settled in to bed when the gun shots rang out. I got out of bed and called for an ambulance upon seeing the young man lying in the street. I too believe that no human being should take their final breath face to concrete and in their own blood like a preyed upon animal. Although I did not know him, I know that this man had a mother, a sister, a family, and friends. He was somebody’s child, sibling, and friend. His life had value. Smh.

Comment of the Day: “No mother wants to see her child in jail for the rest of his life”

Darius Smith fatally stabbed Tony Ervin during a Friday night fight at Ervin’s Chicago Lawn home, authorities said. Reader Staci Walker posted this about him:

Tony affectionately known as Tone Tone, was a great person, loyal, loving and funny. He was like a son to me, and he will be truly missed, never forgotten. I pray that the young that committed this senseless and premediatated [sic] murder is punished to the fullest extent of the law.
I pray for that young mans mother as well, just as No Mother wants to have bury her child, No mother wants to see her child in jail for the rest of his life, if he deserves it or not.
All of this Killing must stop !!!!!!!
We Love you Tone Tone…Rest In Heaven little baby

Preacher Charles Short, 51, was fatally shot last month in the Fuller Park neighborhood. Reader “Matt S” posted this about the killing:

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Short. I find it incredibly sad that a simple trip to the grocery store cost Mr. Short his life. 51 or 5, no parent should lose their child to such senseless violence. I hope his killer is brought to justice.

Comment of the Day: “How can a person gain their freedom [then] not use their time out of incarceration to make their lives better?”

Andre Davis, 53, was charged with murder last week for his alleged role in the October 2013 murder of Jamal Harmon. Davis had spent 32 years in prison for murder and rape before being exonerated by DNA evidence in 2012. Reader Danita Johnson posted this about the case:

If this man is found guilty of this crime, this is such a disappointment. How can a person gain their freedom; then, not use their time out of incarceration to make their lives better? Life is really not that difficult to live. I know that he had to have received funding to get a better start in life other than getting caught up in a murder plan, plot and activity. I am seriously shaking my head at this. Condolences to the victim’s family.
