Kenneth Allen died Friday morning, about 10 hours after he was shot Thursday night in the West Side Austin neighborhood.
Allen, 53, was in the 1600 block of North Luna about 8:15 p.m. when he heard gunfire and felt pain, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Allen, who lived in the 1000 block of North Merrimac, was taken to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, authorities said. He was pronounced dead there at 6:17 a.m. Friday.

A Northwest Side man was ordered held without bond Friday for the murder of a56-year-old
Petro Rymar inside the victim’s shop the Northwest Side Irving Park neighborhood.
Jonathon Herrera, 19, of the 5300 block of North Lovejoy was charged with first-degree murder, burglary and armed robbery, according to Chicago Police.
About 5 p.m. April 1, Herrera was buzzed into Bart’s Coins & Collectibles in the 3900 block of North Pulaski by the 56-year-old Rymar, who owned the shop, prosecutors said at Herrera’s bond hearing Friday.
Once inside, he stabbed Rymar several times in the chest and abdomen with a “sharp instrument,” prosecutors said. He then stole several items from the store’s vault, broke a window with a stool and jumped out.

A woman has been sentenced to four years in prison for fatally stabbing her boyfriend, Rodney Wilson, during an argument in their West Side Austin neighborhood home in the fall of 2014.
Erika Jett, 30, was found guilty of second-degree murder after a bench trial before Judge James Linn on Feb. 10, according to Cook County court records.
Jett and her boyfriend, the 30-year-old Wilson, got into a heated argument at their home in the 5100 block of West Fulton Street on Oct. 16, 2014, authorities said at the time.

A 31-year-old woman has been charged with stabbing her husband,
Michael Williams Jr., to death early Tuesday in their East Chatham neighborhood home on the South Side, according to Chicago Police.
Williams, 37, was stabbed in the neck during a fight with his wife at 2:35 a.m. Tuesday in their home in the 8000 block of South Ingleside, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Williams was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died at 10:01 a.m., authorities said. He lived in the block where he was stabbed.
Jamara L. Cannon is charged with one count of first-degree murder, police said early Thursday.
A judge ordered her held on a $750,000 bond, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. She is due back in court May 10.

A woman is in police custody after Michael Williams Jr. was stabbed to death early Tuesday during a domesitc fight in the East Chatham neighborhood, according to Chicago Police.
Williams, 37, was stabbed in the neck during a fight about 2:30 a.m. in the 8000 block of South Ingleside, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died at 10:01 a.m., authorities said. He lived on the block where he was stabbed.
A 31-year-old woman was taken into custody at the scene, police said. Charges were pending late Wednesday.

A man and woman charged in connection with the death of
Tiara Groves, which was featured in a Chicago Magazine article in 2014, pleaded guilty Monday and were sentenced to time in prison.
Desmond Collins, 39; and Leondra Martin, 31, each pleaded guilty to concealment of a death before Judge Joseph Claps, according to Cook County court records.
They were accused in the death of the 20-year-old Groves, whose body was found in a warehouse in the 4600 block of West Arthington on July 23, 2013. Her death was featured in a Chicago Magazine article focusing on how authorities reclassify homicides and skew crime statistics.
Groves’ death was considered a murder until Dec. 18, 2013, when Chicago Police changed the matter from a homicide investigation to a noncriminal death investigation. However, the Cook County medical examiner’s office determined the cause of death to be homicide by “unspecified means,” according to the magazine story.

A man already in jail for allegedly concealing the death of Dominique Ferguson in Roseland last year has now been charged with her murder, police announced Tuesday night.

Arthur Cain, 53, faces one count of first-degree murder in connection with the asphyxiating death of 21-year-old Dominique Ferguson, police said.
He was charged with concealing Ferguson’s death last January after the woman’s body was found stuff into a suitcase in an alley in the Roseland neighborhood on Dec. 27, 2015.
Cain, 53, initially told police he got spooked when some children saw him lugging the suitcase down the alley so he ditched it in the 300 block of West 115 Street, prosecutors previously said. The children opened the suitcase and found Ferguson’s body.

Eighteen-year-old Jason Napoles was killed and three other young men were wounded in a shooting Tuesday night in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
Napoles was sitting in parked vehicle with three other men in the 2700 block of West 53rd Street at 11:08 p.m. when a red minivan pulled up and someone inside opened fire, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Napoles was shot in the upper chest and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:34 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 2500 block of South Christiana Avenue.
Another 18-year-old man was shot in the back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
A third 18-year-old was shot in the back; and a 19-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to both arms and a graze wound to the head, police said. They were taken to Stroger Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized.

Chicago anti-violence activists lost a powerful voice when the life of 21-year-old Matthew M. Williams was taken in another senseless act of violence.
Williams was born in Chicago and raised in Virginia, but returned to the city last year to follow his dream of becoming a rapper. He planned to study music at Columbia College, while serving as a proponent for social change in the community.
To those who knew him best, Williams was a jokester with a bubbly personality who always wanted to have fun. But when it came to protests, he knew how to put a serious face on, according to his friend, Ja’Mal Green.
