3 dead, 7 wounded in weekend violence

Three people have been killed and at least seven wounded in acts of violence throughout the city since Friday, police said.

An elderly woman was found dead in her home following a domestic-related incident early Sunday in the South Shore neighborhood, authorities said. Catherine Glenn, 82, of the 7800 block of South Euclid Avenue, was discovered with signs of trauma, but an official cause of death has not yet been determined, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Police were questioning a person of interest Sunday afternoon.

About 4 p.m. Sunday, a man was shot to death while in his vehicle in Englewood, police said. The 21-year-old man was in the 6500 block of South Green Street when he was shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

About 3:30 a.m. Sunday, police found a man in his 20s unresponsive in the 2800 block of East 76th Street in the South Shore neighborhood, police said.

He had been shot multiple times in the head and body, and was dead at the scene, authorities said. He remains unidentified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the slaying as of Sunday morning.

Seven other people were wounded in the city over the weekend.

About 3:45 p.m. Sunday, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. He was shot once in the left shoulder in the 7700 block of South Seeley Avenue, police said.

The teen was listed in “stable” condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

About 10 p.m. Saturday, a 19-year-old man was shot in the side near the intersection of East 76th Street and South St. Lawrence Avenue, police said.

The man was standing on the sidewalk when an unknown suspect approached him and opened fire. He was taken in “stable” condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

A woman was stabbed in a domestic incident Saturday night in the 27000 block of South Kildare Avenue in the South Lawndale neighborhood, police said. The 27-year-old woman was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Police suspect the woman was stabbed by her boyfriend, who was not in custody late Saturday.

About 7 p.m. Saturday a man in his 40s was shot in the chest and back in the Chatham neighborhood, police said.

Officers found the man unresponsive on a sidewalk in the 8300 block of South Maryland Avenue, and he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. Information on the man’s condition was not immediately available.

About 12:45 p.m., a man was shot multiple times in the West Englewood neighborhood, police said.

The man was shot in the back and leg in the 2000 block of West 68th Place, police said. He was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Early Saturday, a man in his 20s was shot near 61st Street and Ashland Avenue, police said. He walked into the 7th district police station about midnight with a graze wound to the leg. He was treated at the station and released.

About 8:18 p.m. Friday, a 21-year-old woman was shot in the leg in Humboldt Park, police said.

The shooting happened in the alley of the 1600 block of North Spaulding Avenue. She was walking with her boyfriend when an unknown offender shot her from behind a pole in the alley.

She was listed in “stable” condition at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County late Friday.
