Infant dead, mom critically wounded in stabbing at motel

An infant boy was fatally stabbed and his mother critically wounded at a North Side motel Thursday morning.

The child was found dead and the woman injured at a motel in the 5200 block of North Lincoln Avenue about 10:30 a.m., according to police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan.

The woman was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, Sullivan said. The boy’s age was not immediately known, but he was an infant. The scene appeared to be that of a possible murder-suicide, according to sources, but police could not immediately confirm those reports.

The Diplomat Motel is in the 5200 block of North Lincoln, but police could not immediately confirm that the incident took place at this motel.

Area North detectives are investigating.
