A mother is accused of stabbing her 5-month-old boy to death in a North Side motel Thursday, in what a source tells the Sun-Times was a possible murder-suicide attempt.
Kimberlynn Bolanos, 21, was charged with one count of first-degree murder for the attack at the motel in the 5200 block of North Lincoln Avenue, Chicago Police announced early Friday.
Bolanos, who also seriously injured herself during the incident, remains in an area hospital and is not expected to appear in court until her release, police said.
Authorities summoned to the motel about 10:30 a.m. found both mother and son with severe stab wounds, authorities said.
Five-month-old Issac Bolanos was taken to Swedish Convenant Hospital, where he died from multiple stab wounds at 10:55 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The elder Bolanos, of the 2700 block of West Balmoral Avenue, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, Chicago Police said.
On Thursday afternoon, crime tape blocked off the motel room as police investigated the scene, a site that surprised Alex Ramirez as he arrived for work.
Ramirez, who is painting the exterior of the motel, said he saw the woman and her child Wednesday.
