Newspaper vendor shot, killed, Tuesday morning

A newspaper street vendor was shot and killed Tuesday near a Dan Ryan Expy. off-ramp.

The man, believed to be in his 30s was in the 800 block of West 99th when he was shot about 5:50 a.m., said police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.

The man was selling food and Chicago Sun-Times newspapers to passing motorists at an intersection near the off-ramp, Mirabelli said. The Sun-Times contracts with an outside vendor for single-copy newspaper sales.

Two black males were seen fleeing the area after the shooting, Mirabelli said.
Further details were not immediately available as Area South detectives opened an investigation.

Terrance Graves, 23, of the 1300 block of Longford Circle in Elgin, was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical EXaminer’s office.
