A newspaper street vendor from northwest suburban Elgin was shot and killed Tuesday near a Dan Ryan Expressway off-ramp on the South Side.
He was in the 800 block of West 99th when he was shot about 5:50 a.m., said police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
The man was selling food and Chicago Sun-Times newspapers to passing motorists at an intersection near the off-ramp, Mirabelli said. The Sun-Times contracts with an outside vendor for single-copy newspaper sales.
Two males were seen fleeing the area after the shooting, Mirabelli said.
Terrance Graves, 23, of the 1300 block of Longford Circle in Elgin, was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical EXaminer’s office.
Area South detectives are investigating.
