Man killed in South Chicago shooting

A man was shot and killed in the South Chicago neighborhood Saturday night.

Police were called to the 8500 block of South Saginaw Avenue about 10:58 p.m., responding to a call of a person shot, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.They found the man shot in the head, Gaines said.

Paramedics took the 34-year-old man to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he died about an hour later, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

He was identified as William Brown, of the 8700 block of South Essex Avenue, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Authorities think the shooting may be gang-related, Gaines said.

About a half hour earlier, a man was shot in the leg two blocks east in the 8500 block of South Kingston. The man shot in that attack was listed in “stable” condition at South Shore Hospital.

No one is in custody for either shooting Sunday morning as Area South detectives investigate.
