One man was killed and another wounded in a late Sunday shooting in the Chatham neighborhood.
The two men were standing on the sidewalk talking with a group of people in the 8000 block of South Normal Avenue when two others walked up and opened fire about 9:50 p.m. Sunday, police said.
The wounded men tried to run away, but one was shot dead in the chest on the back porch of a home on the block and the other man, 36, was shot in the foot and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook county in “stable” condition, authorities said.
The deceased was identified as 33-year-old Clifton Balentine, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, which said he died of multiple gunshot wounds and ruled the death a homicide.
Area South detectives are investigating.
