An unidentified man found unresponsive in Humboldt Park on Thursday morning was choked and beaten, and his death has been ruled a homicide.
The man, thought to be in his 50s, was found in the 1100 block of North Pulaski Road, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Police said he was found unresponsive in a gangway about 6:30 a.m. and taken to John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County, where he later died.
An autopsy Friday found the man died of strangulation and blunt head trauma due to an assault, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Authorities originally said the victim had been shot.
Area North detectives are investigating.
