Man killed in Wicker Park shooting

A man was shot to death in the Wicker Park neighborhood early Saturday, police said.

The 19-year-old was shot in the head about 2:20 a.m. in the 1500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

A witness to the shooting told a Sun-Times reporter he was standing outside of a bar on the west side of Milwaukee Avenue when he saw two people walk up to the now-deceased man on the other side of the street, then heard three gunshots.

Police were on patrol when they heard gunshots near the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and North Honore Street. When they arrived, they found the man dead in the street, Greer said.

Police were questioning three people in connection with the shooting early Saturday, Greer said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the death but did not immediately release the man’s identity.

The attack happened about a block west of Wicker Park, where a shooting on Sept. 7 killed 34-year-old Emmanuel Bass and critically wounded another man.

Area North detectives are investigating.
