Two killed, 6 wounded in overnight Halloween shootings

Two men were shot dead and six other people were wounded by gunfire throughout the city Halloween night into early Friday.

Marcus Gaiter, 25, was shot in the shoulder as he sat in the front passenger seat of a vehicle in the 8600 block of South Morgan Street about 9:45 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

A friend drove Gaiter, of the 800 block of West 86th Place, to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park, where he was pronounced dead at 10:33 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

Later, a motorist was shot and killed in the 5600 block of West Fullerton Avenue about 4 a.m., police said.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was stopped at a light when another vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, police said. The man was shot several times in the side of his chest and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Six other people — including a 15-year-old girl — were shot between 7:30 p.m. Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday, police said.
