Sixto “Danny” Roman was a family man who took care of his sick mother, his siblings said.

Roman, 34, was shot in the head early Saturday in the 3200 block of West Armitage Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood, authorities said. He died four days later at a West Town area hospital.

Roman grew up on the North Side and spent a lot of time with his family, his sister, Nancy Roman, said.

“He spent more time with family then with friends,” Nancy Roman said. “Usually he was always home.”

Family members said Roman was enrolled in trade school and was pursuing his G.E.D., but still found time to take care of his sick mother.

“He wasn’t a party guy,” his brother, Jose Roman, said. “He used to be there with my mom, she’s on dialysis and he was there all the time taking care of her.”

Police said Roman and a friend were traveling in a car in the when a gunman in a light-colored SUV opened fire about 12:45 a.m. Saturday, authorities said. Roman suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head.

Roman, of the 3300 block of North Monticello Avenue, was initially rushed to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, but was later transferred to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, where he died at 12:55 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said.

“He was just a real nice guy. He was with a friend, an old friend, having a beer,” Jose Roman said. “Wrong place, wrong time.”

The other man, also 34, suffered a graze wound to the head and was also treated at Stroger Hospital, police said.

Nobody has been charged in the murder.

Area North detectives are investigating if the shooting was gang related, police said. Roman had previously been arrested and charged with aggravated assault, unlawful use of a weapon, battery and disorderly conduct. All the cases were stricken with the complainant did not show up to court, according to court records.
