Eric Woods was shot to death Thursday afternoon in his West Garfield Park home.

The 25-year-old man was shot in the chest about 4:20 p.m. at his home in the 900 bock of South Springfield Avenue, authorities said.

Woods was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:02 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

By Friday afternoon, a memorial of signs, candles and flowers were set up above a blood trail outside the home.

As word of Woods’ death spread, friends took to social media to post condolences:

Woods is the first murder in Chicago since Michael Redmond was shot Sunday in the 200 block of North Latrobe Avenue.

Detectives are questioning a person of interest in the killing, but nobody has been charged for the murder as of Friday afternoon, police said.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
