Ronald Winfield has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 76-year-old Leannia Hall, who was found strangled last Tuesday in her West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood home.

Winfield, 65, is charged with one count of first-degree murder in connection with Hall’s death in the 900 block of North Central Park Avenue, police said Friday.

Hall was found unresponsive at her home, and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 12:22 a.m., according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Authorities claim Winfield, who lives in that same block, was with the victim at the time but fled when her relative arrived at the home, a statement from police said.

An autopsy Thursday found Hall was strangled and ruled her death a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Winfield was scheduled for a bond hearing Saturday, but court information was not immediately available.
