A 13-year-old boy was shot to death Sunday night in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood after being asked about his gang affiliation.
Demureya Macon was with a friend in the 6600 block of South Talman Avenue when a gunman walked out from a nearby alley and asked about his gang affiliation about 8:35 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.
The gunman then opened fire and shot Demureya in the chest, police said.
Demureya, of the 6400 block of South Maplewood Avenue, tried to run away, but collapsed on a nearby sidewalk and died at the scene, authorities said.
A police report indicated Demureya was a seventh grader at Fairfield Elementary School and had no gang affiliations.
Area Central detectives are investigating.
