James Ivory has been charged with murder in the Englewood shooting death of Arthur Shanklin.

Ivory, 31, is accused of shooting Shanklin, 32, in the chest and neck in the 6700 block of South Parnell Avenue about 1:20 a.m. Aug. 26, authorities said.

Witnesses told investigators they heard arguing before shots were fired, police said.

Shanklin, of the 1000 block of East 76th Street, died at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

“He had a heart of gold,” said his sister, Shonda Shanklin. “He had such generosity. He would help a total stranger.”

Shonda Shanklin described her brother as a fun-loving father with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed rap music and the Chicago Bulls, she said.

Ivory, who lives on the block where the shooting happened, is scheduled to appear in court Saturday for a bond hearing.
