Byron Driver killed in Austin shooting

Byron Driver was shot to death in the Austin neighborhood Sunday night.

Driver, 27, was on a sidewalk in the 100 block of North Cicero Avenue when several people walked up to him and opened fire about 7:15 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.

Driver, of the 2800 block of West Polk Street, died at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County less than an hour later, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Nobody has been charged for the killing.

Area North detectives are investigating if the shooting is gang related.

Minutes earlier, 53-year-old Donald Hall was fatally shot in an apparently unrelated shooting in the nearby 4900 block of West Lake Street. Nobody has been charged in his death.
