Byron Floyd killed, two other men wounded in shooting in Austin

Byron Floyd was killed and two other men were wounded in a shooting Sunday night in the West Side Austin neighborhood, police said.

The men were standing in the 900 block of North Lorel about 6:20 p.m. when an armed male walked up and fired numerous shots, police said.

Floyd, 31, of the 5500 block of West Cortland, was shot in the side and back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A 36-year-old man was shot multiple times and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, police said.

A third man, 31, was shot in the right leg and taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where his condition stabilized.

Detectives are investigating whether the shooting was gang-related, according to a police source.
