No bond for Jeremiah Nieves, charged with fatal shooting of 16-year-old Jorge Ruiz in Humboldt Park

A teenager has been charged with fatally shooting 16-year-old Jorge Ruiz earlier this year in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

Jeremiah Nieves, 17, of the 1300 block of North Monticello, faces one count of first-degree murder, according to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 10:10 p.m. on Feb. 10 in the 1600 block of North Keeler found Ruiz shot several times in an alley, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Ruiz, who lived a block away in the 1700 block of North Keeler, was dead at the scene, authorities said.

At the time, police said the shooting may have been gang-related.

Nieves, who is charged as an adult, was ordered held without bond at a hearing Saturday, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
