Joseph Rivera dies 12 hours after being shot in vehicle in Gage Park

Joseph Rivera, who was shot early Saturday in a drive-by attack in the Southwest Side Gage Park neighborhood, died hours later at a hospital.

The 21-year-old had stopped his car at a light about 2:25 a.m. in the 2500 block of West 51st Street when an SUV pulled up and someone inside started yelling gang slogans and firing a gun, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Rivera, of the 5800 block of South Tripp, was shot in the head and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 2:20 p.m. Saturday, according to the medical examiner’s office.
