Marsean Lofton dies six weeks after being shot in West Garfield Park

Marsean Lofton died earlier this month of wounds he suffered when he was shot while driving in the West Garfield Park neighborhood in May.

About 5:25 a.m. on May 31, the 18-year-old Lofton was driving westbound in the 3900 block of West Congress when a light-colored car pulled up and someone inside fired shots, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Lofton was shot in the right shoulder and left forearm, and another person in the car drove him to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said at the time.

Lofton died at 7:13 a.m. July 17 at Weiss Memorial Hospital. He had lived in the 2500 block of West Montrose, authorities said.

Police did not have an update on the investigation Thursday night.
