John Short died after he was shot Wednesday evening in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.
The 23-year-old was in an alley in the 1100 block of West 51st Street about 7:30 p.m. when someone approached him, pulled a handgun and started firing, police said.
Short, who lived a block away in the 1000 block of West 51st, was shot in the back and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
