60-year-old Ira Washington found fatally shot in building in South Shore


Ira Washington was found dead in the hallway of a building on the block where he lived in South Shore on Wednesday, and an autopsy showed the 60-year-old died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Washington was found dead in the hallway of a building in the 6800 block of South Merrill shortly after 9 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He lived on the same block, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Police are investigating whether the shooting may have been narcotics-related.
