Derrick Simpson stabbed to death during fight in Chatham


Derrick Simpson was stabbed to death Monday morning in the Chatham neighborhood.

The 56-year-old was stabbed in the chest in the 800 block of East 81st Street at 11:30 a.m., Chicago Police said. He was fighting with another man when that man stabbed him.

Simpson, who lived on the same block where he was stabbed, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 12:16 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Police said Simpson was 50, but the medical examiner’s office said he was 56.

A person of interest was being questioned Monday afternoon, police said.
