Abraham Barrera fatally shot, second man wounded while driving in Pilsen


Abraham Barrera was killed and another man critically critically wounded in a shooting early Sunday in the Pilsen neighborhood.

About 3:20 a.m., the men, ages 23 and 24, were driving in the 1100 West block of 18th Street when someone walked out of an alley and opened fire, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Both men were shot in the head.

The younger man, Barrera, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:33 a.m., authorities said. He lived in the 4100 block of West 58th Place.

The 24-year-old was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Police are investigating whether the shooting was gang-related.
