Kaylyn Pryor was killed and a 15-year-old boy critically wounded in an Englewood neighborhood drive-by shooting Monday evening on the South Side.
Pryor, 20, who was visiting her grandparents, and was standing outside with the boy in the 7300 block of South May about 6:20 p.m. when someone in a passing vehicle shot them, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Both were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
Pryor, who lived in the 400 block of Callan Avenue in Evanston, was shot in the armpit and pronounced dead at 7:01 p.m., authorities said.
The boy suffered a gunshot wound to the groin, police said. He was listed in critical condition.
Pryor was an aspiring model who recently won the “Mario, Make Me a Model” competition at Mario Tricoci Hair Salons & Day Spas. SHe had recently signed a contract with Factor Women model management in Chicago.
On Tuesday, the agency issued the following statement: “We are deeply saddened to inform you of yesterday’s tragic passing of our newly signed model, and the 2015 Mario, Make Me a Model winner, Kaylyn Pryor. Some of you may have known her from the contest, and the classes she attended at Factor Chosen Model Management. We are devastated beyond words. Our hearts and prayers go out to her family. This touches every one of us who knew her and worked with her. Kaylyn will be remembered for her remarkable personality and generous spirit. She was truly beautiful inside and out!”
The Evanston Township High graduate had studied at Robert Morris University and worked at Chicago Bears ProShop at Soldier Field.
Police on Tuesday said Pryor was not the intended target of the shooting.
