Xavier Thornton was shot to death late Tuesday in the Burnside neighborhood on the South Side.
The 23-year-old was getting out of a vehicle in the 9000 block of South Greenwood at 9:03 p.m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
That’s when the driver fired shots at him before driving away, according to police.
Thornton, who lived on the same block as the shooting, was struck in the chest and head, and was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, where he died at 10:23 p.m., authorities said. His death was ruled a homicide.
