Ricardo Villanueva died Tuesday, more than four years after being shot in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

When he was 31, Villanueva was shot in the 6000 block of South Francisco at 2:26 p.m. Dec. 10, 2011, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and Chicago Police.

Villanueva, who at the time lived in the 4800 block of South Hoyne Avenue, suffered gunshot wounds to the neck, elbow and leg; and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for treatment, police said.

Tuesday, at age 35, Villanueva died in the Brentwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Burbank at 3:57 p.m., according to the medical examiner.

An autopsy Wednesday found he died of complications from the 2011 gunshot wounds. His death was ruled a homicide.
