What started out a sexual hookup between two men last summer in the Irving Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side ended with Lloyd A. White bludgeoned and stabbed to death, then later burned and robbed, prosecutors claimed on Friday.
Donald Arrington, 31, is charged with first-degree murder for the death of 50-year-old White on Aug. 31, 2015, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.
White’s body was found in the basement of a building around 11 a.m. in the 3900 block of North Spaulding Avenue, police said. An autopsy showed he died of multiple sharp-force and blunt-force injuries.
In court Friday, assistant state’s attorney Karisa Flores said the two men met at a Golden Nugget restaurant in Irving Park three days prior to the body being found. They had dinner together, and agreed to meet again the next night.
On Aug. 29, after another dinner at the same restaurant, the men returned to White’s home and had sex, Flores said.
“After engaging in sexual intercourse, the defendant brutally beat the victim about the body with a statue and then stabbed the victim more than 45 times in the neck, head and body,” she said. More than 25 of the stab wounds were to the neck and face.
Arrington then left the home, but later returned with an “uncharged co-offender” and stole several items from the home, including White’s laptop and credit cards, according to prosecutors.
They then tried to light the body on fire, stole White’s Mercedes-Benz and drove away, prosecutors said. They used the credit cards at various stores, sold the laptop for $100 and ditched the car in north suburban Lincolnwood, according to prosecutors.
White’s body was found on Aug. 31 by police officers performing a well-being check after a friend was unable to contact him through phone calls and texts.
He was “found naked and bloodied, unresponsive on the floor with multiple stab wounds to the head and body.” There were also burns on the victim’s face.
A bottle of lighter fluid and pieces of the statue were found nearby.
Arrington was arrested Jan. 27 in the 1500 block of East 72nd Place, police said.
He admitted beating and stabbing White, then returning to rob the home and try to burn the body to hide evidence, prosecutors said.
Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. called the allegations “heinous” and said Arrington was “dangerous.” He ordered him held without bond.
Flores said Arrington had previously been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle in 2008, 2009 and 2011
Assistant Public Defender Sandra Parris said Arrington lives with his girlfriend and has two kids. He works as a security guard at a night club.
He originally attended the University of Miami on a football scholarship, but returned to the area after he was injured, Parris said.
