John Mackey killed, second man hurt in shooting in Humboldt Park restaurant

John Mackey was killed and another man wounded in a shooting Thursday evening in a restaurant in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

Mackey, 18, and a 20-year-old man were inside the diner just before 5:30 p.m. in the 3700 block of West Division. That’s when someone came in and opened fire, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Mackey was shot in the head, while the older man suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, authorities said.

They were both taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where Mackey was pronounced dead at 6:06 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 2600 block of West Potomac Avenue.
