Man shot to death on election night identified as 23-year-old Charis Vernell Eaton

A man who was shot to death Tuesday night in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side has been identified as Charis Vernell Eaton Jr. He was one of four men to die in gunfire on election night.

The 23-year-old was inside a business in the 1200 block of West 69th Street at 7:30 p.m. when someone came in and fired shots, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Eaton, of the 7600 block of South Loomis, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the back and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:22 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

His death was ruled a homicide.
