Nineteen-year-old Cashes McCree fatally shot while riding bicycle in Austin

Nineteen-year-old Cashes McCree was shot to death Tuesday morning while riding a bicycle in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

McCree was riding in the 1500 block of North Lockwood about 9:30 a.m. when two gunmen walked up and opened fire, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was shot multiple times in the torso, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:06 a.m., authorities said.

McCree, who attended Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia, lived less than a mile from the site of the shooting in the 900 block of North Lockwood.

The shooting broke a nearly 70-hour span during which there were no murders in the city. The previous reported fatal shooting had been about 2:30 p.m. Saturday in West Englewood.
