18-year-old man charged with fatal shooting of Deitrick Stogner in shootout in Washington Park neighborhood

An 18-year-old man has been charged with killing Deitrick Stogner when the they got into a shootout Saturday afternoon in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood.

Kashai Jones and the 36-year-old Stogner were shooting at each other in the 100 block of West Garfield Boulevard near the Checker’s restaurant about 1:20 p.m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Stogner was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:24 p.m., according to police and the medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 4600 block of South Prairie.

Jones was shot in the left leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said. He was charged with one count of first-degree murder. POlice initially said he was 17.

Jones, of the 1700 block of East 70th Street, was scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday.
