Antonio White was fatally shot and another man wounded as they sat on a porch Tuesday afternoon in the West Side Austin neighborhood. It was the first of four fatal shootings across the city on Tuesday.

The men were sitting on a front porch in the 4900 block of West Monroe at 1:52 p.m. when someone walked up and opened fire, according to Chicago Police.

White, 29, was shot twice in the chest, and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:37 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. White’s home address wasn’t immediately known.

An 18-year-old man was shot in the back and right leg, and was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.

Officers were called again to the same block later Tuesday to “disrupt gang activity” based on a tip from the community, according to police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. Three guns were seized and three people taken into custody.

Police said it was not immediately clear whether the arrests were connected to the earlier shooting, but Gugliemi said, “Officers likely prevented another shooting.”
